Animal Welfare Information
Second Home Pet Resort is a proud supporter of the animal welfare community. Sadly, Maricopa County ranks #2 (with Los Angeles County being #1) as having the largest shelter animal intake in the country. In 2015, nearly 52,000 animals were taken in by local shelters and rescue groups – that’s a minimum of 142 animals entering the shelter system each day, just here in our community. Of those, fewer than half will make it out alive.
Animal welfare organizations face an uphill battle with limitations on space, funding, and interested adopters. Nationally, less than 14% of pet parents adopted their pet from a shelter or rescue group – it’s a statistic we hope to have a small role in changing in the future.
To this end, we partner with local animal welfare organizations to increase awareness, encourage pet adoptions, and raise much-needed funds for their programs.
Pogo’s Place Adoption Center
Inspired by a very special little Beagle named Pogo, Pogo’s Place is a collaboration between Second Home Pet Resort and area animal welfare organizations. Located just off of our pet resort lobby, Pogo’s Place could be where you meet your next cherished friend! At various times throughout the year, Pogo’s Place is used by animal welfare organizations to host remote adoption events and can house up to 5 dogs and 8 cats. We are strong supporters of the animal welfare community and hope you’ll consider adoption when you're ready to add another dog or cat to your family!
